Hmong Community Fellowship – Ramsey County Historical Society in partnership with the Center for Hmo

Date

Panel discussion: May 22, 2025

Project type

Community Outreach and engagement, cultural preservation, family archives, archiving, materials preservation, research, project development

This fellowship focused on cultural preservation and storytelling through the development of a practical toolkit for individuals and families interested in preserving their own family archives. Created through the lens of a Hmong woman and grounded in my lived experience, the guidebook offers universal tools and approaches that can be adapted by anyone seeking to document and safeguard their family history.

The project uses my own family archive as a foundation and was informed by conversations with preservation professionals in the Twin Cities, guidance from community leaders and organizations, and intergenerational dialogue with my mother to better understand the traditions passed down in my family.

The Family Archive Toolkit is available for purchase here on the website.
